BCM finds new home below bookstore

Baptist Collegiate Ministries moved from W. Arizona Avenue to its temporary location under the Tech Bookstore.
Tech has purchased the property which housed BCM’s previous headquarters and plans for it to become a part of the new Enterprise Campus.
BCM student intern Kimberly Wytcherly, a senior biology education major, said the move to the new location was executed fairly quickly with the help of the students.
“We began moving the first week of [Fall Quarter 2009],” Wytcherly said. “Everything was ready for next week’s events.”
Because the transition took place during summer break and during the first week of the 2009-10 school year, Wytcherly said that not much was interrupted as far as religious services or events.
Wytcherly said BCM received help from local churches that volunteered to store many items until BCM move into their new permanent location, to be located on Alabama Avenue across from the sorority lodges.
“We’re currently building a new permanent location,” said Jonathan Clark, associate director of the BCM. “In a perfect world, it will be completed by the beginning of Fall Quarter 2010.”
Clark said while the new location is temporary, the BCM and its members are happy with the move.
“It’s conducive for hanging out.” Clark said.
“I like that it’s convenient being right in the middle of campus.” said Phoebe Thomas, a freshman French and Spanish major. “It’s easy to stay connected.”
While the students have been enjoying the new location, there is even more excitement for the upcoming move to a permanent location.
Thomas said that the old building was “falling apart” and BCM students are being told that the new location will be bigger and more up-to-date than its old one.
Other upsides to the new location include wireless Internet access, a four-square court and plenty of available space for large group activities.
